About Us

Founded in 1953, the Gibraltar Horticultural Society (GHS) has been at the heart of Gibraltar’s gardening and horticultural community for over seventy years. As a trusted institution, we are dedicated to promoting the beauty, science, and benefits of horticulture while fostering a deeper connection with the natural world.

The Society is more than just a community of gardeners — it is a place where knowledge is shared, friendships grow, and a collective passion for plants flourishes. Throughout the year, members enjoy a rich program of activities, including:

  • Exhibitions & shows that celebrate creativity and horticultural excellence.

  • Talks & lectures by guest speakers on gardening, plants, and environmental topics.

  • Hands-on demonstrations & workshops to develop practical gardening skills.

  • Day trips & outings to gardens, nurseries, and places of horticultural interest.

  • Opportunities to volunteer in a wide range of community projects that enhance Gibraltar’s green spaces and support environmental awareness.

Our mission is threefold:

  • To support and inspire our members in all aspects of gardening and plant care.

  • To encourage young people to value and appreciate plants, biodiversity, and the environment.

  • To preserve and promote Gibraltar’s horticultural heritage, ensuring it thrives for future generations.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener, a newcomer keen to learn, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of plants, the GHS offers a welcoming space for everyone.
