The Urban Oasis Award is a creative competition forming part of the Gibraltar Horticultural Society Spring Flower Show.
It challenges participants to transform their balconies, windowsills, terraces and outdoor spaces, into living works of art.
The Urban Oasis Award is proudly organised by the Gibraltar Horticultural Society & Gibraltar Sustainable Buildings Group, and in partnership the Ministry for the Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change & Heritage.
Together we’re working to inspire creativity, sustainability, and community pride by greening Gibraltar’s urban spaces.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
The Urban Oasis Award offers four categories:
Residential – Individual: For individuals or households who want to green their personal balconies, patios, or windowsills.
Residential – Estate, Block or Street: For groups of residents working together to transform shared spaces into flourishing green corners.
Office: For workplaces that wish to bring nature indoors or create welcoming, plant-filled entrances for employees and visitors.
Shopfront / Commercial Entrance: For businesses that want to stand out by adding a creative and sustainable green touch to their commercial frontage.
The competition is open to everyone in Gibraltar.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Registration Period:
1st November 2025 to the 1st March 2026. Judging will take place between March - April 2026.

Your submission:
In March 2026 you will be asked to submit images of your finished entry. These images are to consist of:
3 “before” photos - to demonstrate growth & progress.
No more than 5 photos of the finished entry.

In support your project, every participant will receive a unique discount code when registered.

Share your Progress!
Once you’ve begun, don’t keep your progress to yourself! Share your updates on social media by tagging @UrbanOasisAward and using the hashtags #UrbanOasisAward #GHS #GSBG.
Not only will this spread inspiration across the community, but it may also earn you extra points in the judging process.
JUDGING CRITERIA
Entries will be judged across a range of criteria designed to reward creativity, sustainability, and impact.
The main considerations will include:
Creativity & Aesthetics: How imaginative and visually appealing your space becomes.
Biodiversity & Sustainability: The extent to which your design supports wildlife and uses eco-friendly practices.
Community Impact: The visibility of your project and the positive effect it has on the surrounding neighbourhood.
Growth & Maintenance: Evidence of care and progress, demonstrated through updates shared on social media.
5 candidates will be shortlisted per category. These will be announced on our social media pages (Instagram & Facebook) as well as emailed to the candidates.
Shortlists will be based on observation from public areas, social media posts and photographic submissions.
Shortlisted entries will be judged in person, at a date to be agreed with the candidate.
AWARDS & PRIZES
Winners Presentation Ceremony: Tuesday, April 14th 2026.
This ceremony will take place at The Convent, and awards will be presented by His Excellecy, Sir Ben Bathurst.
